Art in the Environment - a Project for Foundation Phase Winter/Brosiect 2009

Sponsored by

Primary Schools in two parts of Wales - Swansea and Pembroke

enjoy outdoor learning through this special project designed for Early Years children.

Participating Swansea Schools:- Parkland, Y.GG. Llwynderw, St. Helens and Terrace Road.

This interpretative nature and art project achieves an awareness of a local natural environment and its wildlife for young school children, through observation and study in an artistic way. The stimulation of natural creativity and imagination through environmental art increases confidence and well being for participants. The importance of sustaining and preserving the natural places and its wildlife is highlighted, giving the children a lifelong understanding and appreciation of nature. The project links closely with the Foundation Phase criteria of learning through imaginative play, which is ideally taught through the medium of art by the Sculpture by the Sea UK team of highly trained and sensitive artists. This project has provided a chance for each participant to view their everyday surroundings in a different way and to increase their knowledge of the natural world creating a greater respect for it. It has been recorded that some pupils have continued to apply what they have experienced through the project and developed it in their own time with playground play and also at home, as well as the teachers continuing to build on the work in the classroom. The project has also given the teaching staff a chance to think in other ways of how to use the outdoor space to its full advantage.

Mae'r prosiect natur a chelf ddeongliadol hwn yn cyflawni ymwybyddiaeth o amgylchedd naturiol lleol a'i fywyd gwyllt i blant ifanc, trwy arsylwi ac astudio mewn modd artistig. Mae ysgogi creadigrwydd naturiol a dychymyg drwy gelf amgylcheddol yn cynyddu hyder a lles i'r rhai sy'n cymryd rhan. Pwysleisir yr angen am gynnal a diogelu lleoedd naturiol a'u bywyd gwyllt gan roi dealltwriaeth a gwerthfawrogiad gydol oes o natur i blant. Mae gan y prosiect gysylltiadau agos â meini prawf dysgu'r Cyfnod Sylfaen trwy chwarae llawn dychymyg sy'n cael ei ddysgu'n ddelfrydol drwy gyfrwng celf gan dîm o artistiaid hyfforddedig a sensitif Cerflun ar Lan y Môr. Mae'r prosiect hwn wedi rhoi cyfle i bob un sy'n cymryd rhan i weld eu hamgylcheddau bob dydd mewn ffordd wahanol ac i gynyddu eu gwybodaeth am y byd naturiol a'i barchu'n fwy. Cofnodwyd bod rhai disgyblion wedi parhau i ddefnyddio'r hyn y maent wedi ei ddysgu drwy'r prosiect a'i ddatblygu yn eu hamser eu hunain wrth chwarae yn yr iard ac yn y cartref hefyd. Yn ogystal, mae athrawon yn parhau i ddatblygu'r gwaith yn yr ystafell ddosbarth. Mae'r prosiect hefyd wedi rhoi cyfle i staff addysgu feddwl am ffyrdd eraill i ddefnyddio ardaloedd awyr agored i'r eithaf.
